Toby Cotterill creates unique, sculptural jewellery, inspired by the natural world and the process of making.
He grew up on a farm in West Wales, spending his childhood playing outside with his brothers and making things, and his ideas come from this early immersion in nature. Pieces develop through sketchbook work and material manipulation, and evolve on the workbench.
Toby uses traditional silversmithing techniques, forging sheet silver over steel stakes, and into pitch and wooden formers to create three-dimensional forms. These are often articulated and finished with gold, enamel or oxides, to create lively, humorous pieces of wearable sculpture.
Toby exhibits his work at major craft fairs across the UK, and has shown at galleries including Velvet da Vinci Gallery in San Francisco and Goldsmiths’ Centre in London. He was selected by the Crafts Council for the Hothouse programme in 2016 and continue to represent them through workshops and as Talent Development Ambassador.
