Lucie Summers is a multidisciplinary textile artist from Suffolk. Her current practice uses waste plastic, specifically from milk cartons, to create collages combined with wool felt. This unusual material is the result of many hours of experimentation and exploration during Lucie’s MA in Textile Design at Norwich University of the Arts and in the three years since graduating.
Lucie has perfected a method of processing, dyeing and cutting waste plastic which she can use in a similar way to paper; she is able to layer mark-making and colour to create interesting and unusual textures, using heat to bond the surfaces.
Lucie has a background in contemporary quilt making and, while quite different, her artist’s ‘handwriting’ firmly links the two disciplines.
