Ella McIntosh

celebrating pewter

Ella McIntosh handcrafts contemporary pewter for homes and tables from her studio at Manchester Craft and Design Centre. Her business was established in 2012.

Using a wide variety of skilled and traditional pewter-smithing techniques combined with her contemporary design style, Ella is pushing the boundaries of age-old metal-smithing practices. She produces striking yet functional pewterware, such as vases, candlesticks and spoons.

Ella’s designs are visually inspired by the urban environment she cycles through every day; the Mancunian landscape of old buildings butted up to new developments, and the chimneys of the northern mill towns she grew up in. Ella uses this inspiration to drive textural contrast in her work, stripping back embellishment to celebrate her chosen medium.

Ella’s passion for the unique properties and materiality of pewter runs through her work. She creates modern pieces which challenge perceptions of pewter, and flies the flag for contemporary pewter-smithing.
