Denise Jaques is a contemporary mosaic artist exploring scale and dimension as she creates wall-based and sculptural artwork for interior and exterior spaces. She is fascinated by distorted reflections and the dramatic impact that natural light can have on her work.
Often Denise limits her palette to include only weather resistant materials, allowing nature and light to interact with the pieces. She delights in rainfall trickling over textured slate and stone surfaces, and contrasts this with reflective and iridescent glass, to create atmospheric, distorted reflections in the surrounding environment. Her work has a strong sense of rhythm and is full of texture, shimmer and contrast.
Denise’s intuitive perspective on contemporary mosaics pushes boundaries of this ancient process of piecing together materials. She uses techniques borrowed from traditional mosaic, glass, metal and ceramic craft skills, alongside innovative methods of cutting, manipulating and setting non-traditional and found materials.
