The September Cohort: Our most recent joiners

This year we’ve had a steady stream of new talent joining our network, with a fascinating array of ideas, inspirations, surprising materials and innovative techniques. Our latest intake are no exception – blacksmithing meets jewellery, cast resin inspires playful forms, waste plastic combines with reclaimed textiles.

Our New Professionals:
Beca Beeby works sustainably in an array of recycled metals with porcelain to make organic forms inspired by the forms of nature. A very different take on metal is Beate Gegenwort‘s practice, in which she expertly combines enamels and unique mark making on her vessels. Helen Noakes uses resin and other materials to make exquisite forms shot through with a flash of humour. Lucie Summers uses found and recycled matter to create abstract compositions inspired by both natural and manmade forms. Sophie Symes‘ jewellery and decorative objects are created by lost wax casting from her handmade forms.

New Graduates: Award-winning City & Guilds wood carving honours graduate and QEST scholar Jo Grogan has a background in fashion design and is now creating a new decorative practice to examine the space between past and present.  Cornish-based jeweller Carly Hitchens has transformed her practice during her MA studies, and now focuses on science and digitak technologies to inform her designs.  Sarah Nunes is a ceramicist, material explorer and surface developer, whose work is imspired by the proces of hand-throwing clay. Roberta Schreyer is an interdisciplinary and enviornmental textiles researcher, artist and activist who investigates how storytelling can be used in the arts to restore the broken human-nature relationship.

New Associate: Shirani Fernando of Shirani Jewellery combines three-dimensional form, texture and colour to make pieces from recycled silver and ethically sourced gemstones.
