Handmade for retail 3: Atlantic Design Studio

The third maker in our series on handmade craft ideal for giftware is Atlantic Design Studio, the jewellery brand of Lou Gillett. This series is supported by our long term partners at the British Craft Trade Fair, who present high quality annual showcases of innovative and well made British-based craft, perfect for boutique gift and craft gallery style retailers. This work is individual, original and distinctive and exemplifies why the UK is an important hub for great craft and design.

Lou Gillett is the creative brain behind Atlantic Design Studio, which takes its name from her location on the coast of Northern Ireland.  Lou been designing and making silver jewellery for more than two decades. Her work is inspired by forms and textures from the built environment (she used to be an architect). Lou looks at relationships between objects to create new and unique designs, and her work ranges from sharp clean lines to more organic forms.

Lou loves the development process and spends hours sketching. The transformation from pencil marks on paper to to contemporary silver forms also captivates her, and she says, “I love to use the traditional processes of silversmithing, include sawing, filing, soldering, forming and lost wax casting.”

Lou’s contact details are here.

The fourth maker profiled in this series is Julie Fewster of Inner Finn Ceramics.
