Sophie Durandet Ceramics

form, pattern & surface

Sophie Durandet is a London-based ceramic artist whose wheel-thrown stoneware vessels explore the relationship between form, surface and perception. Combining sharply defined silhouettes with hand-applied geometric patterning, she uses contrasting glazed and unglazed finishes to create shifting visual experiences that alter the perception of volume, balance and movement.

Influenced by architecture, graphic rhythm and historical ornament, Sophie’s work investigates how surface can transform the presence of an object while retaining a strong connection to utility and making. Working in high-fired stoneware, Sophie balances precision with the fluidity of the wheel-thrown process, creating vessels that sit between functional object and sculpture. Her practice centres on the expressive possibilities of form, pattern and surface within contemporary ceramics.

Sophie joined Design-Nation as a Graduate in 2025 and moved up to Professional in mid 2026.
