Samantha Boot

narrative of place and memory

Samantha Boot is a contemporary artist maker, working by hand with thread, cloth and words. Drawn to the ancient lineage and domesticity of her materials, she creates quiet, thoughtful works inspired by the narrative of place and memory. Samantha uses a reductive colour palette, often with handmade, natural inks and paints.

The words Samantha stitches by hand onto her work are her own. Her poetic reflections are written first on to paper, and then copied, by eye, using needle and thread. These words are layered onto cloth or vintage linens, often with their own story to tell. A personal lexicon of hand stitches further imbues each piece with layered meaning, which reaches beyond the aesthetic, and grounds the work in the slow, meditative processes involved in its creation.

Samantha’s work has been juried into shows nationally and internationally such as the RWA (Royal West fo England Academy) 171 Open in Bristol, and the International Art Textile Biennale 2025, in Australia.

Samantha initially joined Design-Nation as an Associate in 2024 and became a Professional member in mid 2025.
