Rowena Park is a jeweller who works with clear acrylic – shaped and bent using grinders, saw cuts and polishing grits. Her transparent coloured lacquers combine with almost pure gold leaf applied to the back which creates vibrant and glowing effects, which are then “viewed” through the acrylic layer, a process she has developed since leaving college.
The clear acrylic that Rowena uses enhances the jewel like quality of this special combination of lacquers and gold leaf, by focusing the light into the acrylic and bouncing off from the coloured layer. Constantly evolving and stretching the boundaries away from traditional jewellery, Rowena is using non traditional techniques and materials to challenge the established view of what jewellery should be.
Rowena believes that jewellery is a dialogue between what the wearer wants to say about themselves, as much as what the designer is saying about the function of jewellery to create wearable pieces of art within the confines of jewellery.
Rowena joined Design-Nation’s Professional membership in 2025.
