Maria Sigma Limited

material integrity & longevity

Maria Stavropoulou is a textile designer and handweaver working between Athens and London. Her practice explores the expressive possibilities of weaving through texture, structure and the inherent qualities of natural fibres. Guided by a zero-waste philosophy, she works predominantly with undyed wool and other natural or recycled materials, creating bespoke textiles, wall pieces and functional objects for residential and hospitality spaces.

Combining traditional weaving techniques with contemporary design, Maria develops tactile works that celebrate craftsmanship, material integrity and longevity. Her approach encourages a more considered relationship with textiles, foregrounding the skills, resources and time involved in their making.

A graduate of Chelsea College of Arts, she also contributes to contemporary craft through teaching, workshops and publications, including Weaving: The Art of Sustainable Textile Creation. By sharing practical knowledge and sustainable approaches, she helps make weaving accessible to new audiences and supports its continued development as a living craft.

Maria rejoins Design-Nation in 2026 after a break of several years.
