Friday Lawrence is an award-winning designer of contemporary jewellery. Her practice is led by a lifelong fascination with industrial and utilitarian metalwork objects. Her jewellery collections are component-led with starting points that range from industrial fixings, tools, pylons and items that are usually associated with workshops or industry. Blending traditional silversmithing techniques with modern technologies, Friday consciously elevates these often-overlooked items and challenges conventional notions of jewellery.
While Friday was clearing her childhood home she discovered a long line of diverse craft heritage in the toolboxes left behind by dead relatives. Influenced by this rich personal history of crafts and mending, looking into the stories of the inherited toolboxes, she found they all contained a common thread: each box included a measuring device. ‘What’s your measure?’ is a collection of hollow form Art Rings that are fabricated in recycled sterling silver. These pieces combine used and found objects collected from Friday’s inherited toolboxes.
Friday joined Design-Nation in 2026.
