Caroline Reed

unpredictable beauty

Caroline Reed has dedicated the past nine years to working with glass, establishing her studio in South Wimbledon in 2020. Her art is an emotional response to the natural environments that have influenced her life, resulting in colourful, textural, and tactile works that evoke personal memories and emotions.

While employing various kiln-forming methods, Caroline is particularly drawn to pâte-de-verre as a technique. She meticulously blends her own colours from glass frits and powders, and sometimes incorporate metal wire or lustres to enrich the visual qualities of her pieces.

More recently, Caroline has developed a new technique involving multiple firings. With each firing, she adds increasing amounts of fritted glass to the delicate surface, enhancing the texture, building its strength and creating a sense of place. Once in the kiln, she relinquishes control, allowing the heat to dictate the final surface definition – a testament to the unpredictable beauty of the medium.

Caroline joined Design-Nation’s Professional membership in 2025.
