Bahareh Khomeiry is a ceramic artist whose practice bridges architecture and emotional expression, transforming clay into dynamic sculptural forms that suggest movement, tension, and resilience. With a background in architecture and ceramics, she approaches making through processes of construction and assembly, inspired by the layered structure of Persian domes, where each element contributes to balance, strength, and unity.
Drawing on her Persian heritage and her experience as an Iranian woman, Bahareh’s work explores themes of memory, identity, and quiet resistance. Clay becomes a language through which she expresses emotions and experiences that cannot always be spoken directly, creating works that feel both deeply personal and universally human. Bahareh’s ongoing series Hair as Freedom: Cut Plaits was developed in response to the “Women, Life, Freedom” movement in Iran in 2022. Witnessing women cutting their hair in protest against oppression profoundly influenced her practice. Through braided and woven ceramic forms, the series reflects a journey from restriction and grief toward liberation and collective strength. Each sculptural piece embodies transformation, movement, and solidarity, capturing both vulnerability and resilience.
By combining hand-building and throwing techniques, Bahareh creates tactile forms that balance structure with fluidity, inviting viewers to reflect on freedom, connection, and the power of shared human experience.
Iranian-born Bahareh originally joined Design-Nation as a Graduate in early 2026, after winning the British Ceramics Biennial’s 2025 Fresh Talent award. She became a Professional member in mid 2026.
