Angela Hull (known as Ange) has worked in the ceramic industry for over thirty-five years, developing a particularly deep connection to the heritage of some of Staffordshire’s most prestigious brands.
More recently, after becoming a design consultant, Ange has been exploring other, aspects of her own creativity, and has discovered a passion for hands-on ceramic making. She takes inspiration from traditional Japanese studio practices to inform her own creative approaches in clay.
Ange produces collections of gestural expressions in clay, where the touch of the human hand works in dialogue with material (in her case, Nerikomi porcelain), creating scapes of curiosity for the viewer. Colours are juxtapositions of saturated brights with black and white, where light and shadow effects are allowed to play against incidental form.
Ange is fascinated by the creative engagement between maker and material – the unspoken dialogue – and how beauty can be discovered within the materiality and imperfection of making.
Ange joined Design-Nation in 2026.
