Alison Waters is a ceramic artist based at Grit Studio, Stockport. She graduated with first class honours as a mature student from Manchester School of Art in 2014, but felt a little lost. Alison looked to a local ceramic studios for a means to continue her creative journey and after learning hand building techniques from scratch, Alison soon developed an affinity for working with clay.
In 2016 Alison set up her own ceramic business. Inspiration for her hand built stoneware sculptures comes from a sense of place, using ceramic art to influence how she feels about her surroundings and encouraging others to see beauty in the constantly changing landscape of redevelopment and regeneration in the industrial north. She says, “Brick chimneys and brutalist shapes stand side by side here and as many of these areas undergo regeneration, I wish to capture and celebrate this juxtaposition of architectural styles.”
Alison is a strong advocate of arts for wellbeing and regularly facilitates sessions for local charities and groups in and around Stockport.
