Design-Nation is delighted to return to the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair (GNCCF) this autumn with a curated showcase of eight exceptional designer-makers from across the Design-Nation community.
Taking place in Manchester, GNCCF brings together some of the most exciting contemporary craft and design from across the UK. Our showcase celebrates the diversity of materials, processes and ideas shaping designer-maker practice today, from jewellery and ceramics to knitwear, embroidery, textiles and sculptural work.
The eight makers selected for this year’s showcase each bring a distinctive perspective to contemporary craft.
Alexandra Simpson creates expressive jewellery inspired by nature, storytelling and organic forms, combining precious metals and gemstones with traditional goldsmithing techniques.
Berni Raeside-Bell of Detta Knitwear creates contemporary knitwear inspired by the landscapes of Ireland and Scotland, combining luxury knitwear, reclaimed denim and woven wool textiles with a strong commitment to sustainability and longevity.
Farah Qureshi creates jewellery in ethical and sustainable silver, gold and platinum, drawing inspiration from nature, travel, found objects and the world around her.
Hannah Lane transforms discarded paper and books alongside wood into sculptural works that explore the relationship between permanence and fragility.
Heather Rajaratnam creates bold, sculptural jewellery centred around coloured gemstones, bringing together technical expertise and a distinctive contemporary aesthetic.
Liz Blyth works across ceramics and mixed materials, creating tactile objects that explore storytelling, emotion and the quiet beauty of everyday things.
Nicki Jarvis brings ceramics and textiles together in tactile, hand-built sculptural cubes inspired by pebbles and archaeological finds, with each piece containing ceramic beads that create a subtle rattle when handled.
Yiling Wu combines contemporary embroidery with digital processes and cross-disciplinary materials, exploring the space between tradition and modernity.
We’re looking forward to bringing these eight distinctive practices to GNCCF and introducing visitors to makers whose work deserves to be discovered, collected and enjoyed.
