Anna Thomson wins Best Newcomer at MADE

For the third year running, Design-Nation is delighted to partner with our friends at Tutton & Young to select the Best Newcomer at one of their “MADE” events. The 2020 winner is ceramicist Anna Thomson Design whose lighting, vessels, platters and installations pleasingly blend sharp graphic lines and soft curves. Working in bone china and porcelain, Anna brings her design sensibilities and a sense of exploration to the creation of pieces that look at repetition, variation and erosion.

From her East Sussex studio Anna makes a range of work: vases adorned with crisp geometric features, pendant lights informed by a fascination with architecture and developed using 3D printing, and decorative bowls enhanced by pared-back layers of muted colour. We thought these looked great on her virtual Made Makers Online stand last week.

Anna receives a year’s free Design-Nation membership. She said, ‘I am so excited to be joining Design-Nation’s portfolio of designers and becoming part of the DN community. It is especially meaningful as I remember fondly your founder Peta Levi MBE, who was instrumental at the very beginning of my design career. Thank you so much for choosing me to be the recipient of this award. The timing is perfect for my business and I’m looking forward to the year ahead with you.’

We are thrilled to have Anna join our portfolio and look forward to working with her.
