William Romeril’s practice is split between silversmithing and bronze casting, as well as exploring a middle ground with the combination of the two. His work aims to be humorous and playful, whilst also holding an air of seriousness.
Will’s approach to his silverwork is through an absurd and irreverent application of function, creating operational but conceptually pointless pieces. Feigning use, Will opens a dialogue on the use of silver and the preciousness attached to it. Reflecting his own existentialist philosophies, his bronzes bear the burden of their task. With expressive faces and textured bodies they interact with the world in ways that point to not only their humanity, but their place and struggles within that framework.
William Romeril won the Design-Nation award at New Designers One Year 2022.
