Martin Donlin is an award winning artist who designs and makes glass artworks on large and small scales. Both sacred and secular, his commissions have included substantial busy public buildings and small spaces for prayer and reflection. He has completed and project managed a large number of commissions in the UK, Europe and the USA.
Martin works with a wide range of materials including antique mouth-blown glass, screen-printed ceramic enamels, subtle acid-etched and polished glass. The majority of his projects are intended to work on a variety of levels, with bold images for impact, yet containing small intricate details to be seen close up. Recent projects have included the use of slim line LED light boxes and toughened cast glass for both interior and exterior situations. Colours are usually inspired by the architects he works alongside, and the surroundings of the building, but are always warm and welcoming.
All Martin’s projects are all site specific and inspired by the atmosphere and characteristics of the individual location, as well as consideration of the people who will ultimately experience the finished work. In order to achieve this, in a large number of projects Martin has collaborated with local writers, poets and even Poet Laureates and commissioned new written works, to inspire his designs and sometimes to be etched onto the surface of the glass.
