Kas Williams is a mixed media artist who employs layering as a way of expressing her thought processes, in abstract and three dimensional forms. Her practice is rooted in the traditional craft of textile printing, through both process and the chemistry of colour. She has a fascination for the way materials work together.
Kas seeks to create lyrical energy and musicality in her work. This is reflected in her use of colour, marks and gestures, all of which come from subconscious collections of observations and responses to the world around her. Colour is a key element for Kas combined with a fusion of different techniques, creating floating fields of transparencies and reflections that are anchored with pins to a laser cut frame. Her chosen techniques and materials lift the work from the surface, adding depth and texture to the finished pieces. The result is a balance between complexity and elegance that is both tactile and visually engaging.
