Kas Williams is a mixed media artist who uses layering as a way of expressing her thought processes in abstract and three dimensional forms. Her practice is rooted in the traditional craft of textile printing through process and the chemistry of colour which created a fascination for the way materials work together.
There is a lyrical energy and musicality about her work which is reflected in the use of colour, marks and gestures that come from a subconscious collection of observations and responses to the world around her. Colour is a key element combined with a fusion of different techniques to create floating fields of transparencies and reflections anchored with pins to a laser cut frame that lifts the work from the surface adding depth and texture to the finished piece. The result is a balance between complexity and elegance that is both tactile and visually engaging.
