Jan is an award winning and collectable textile artist working predominately in hand woven and hand dyed bespoke art textile pieces. All work is woven or sampled on a traditional 32 shaft dobby loom in Jan’s studio at home in Nottinghamshire.
Jan’s research into considered themes, alongside sketchbook work and woven sampling underpins all of her collections. A particular interest in reflected images, surface qualities and translucency are abiding inspirations. Her work has an incandescent, almost dreamlike quality, as it moves and changes with the light. Large and small scale site specific works enhance both domestic and corporate spaces.
Although Jacquard weaving has influenced her practice since graduating with an MA in Fashion and Textiles in 2016, Jan continues to like the idea of making something original which begins with just one thread and grows into the visual expression of an idea. The process of making work by hand remains her abiding passion. Limited edition and one-off bespoke pieces are Jan’s hallmarks.
