British designer Helen Yardley studied textile design at the Royal College of Art, establishing her studio in London in 1983. Known for her signature bold, painterly style and dramatic use of colour, she produces innovative, abstract rugs and wall hangings for a wide range of interior spaces. Visualised as drawings for floors the designs appear to be essentially abstract but carry subtle layers of meaning, creating works that are more sustaining than simple decoration. The Bermondsey studio hosts a showroom, design studio and a small production unit where prototypes and special commissions are created. Helen supervises, carefully selecting and balancing the yarn colours which have all been dyed to the unique HY Studio palette. All the hand-tufted rugs are produced in the UK with the hand-knotted rugs being made by skilled artisans in Nepal. Helen’s work has been installed in commercial and private spaces globally with notable commissions including; The House of Commons, Coutts Bank, Metropolitan Hotel, Fidelity Investments, Ernst and Young, and the Abu Dhabi stock exchange. Helen Yardley is a brand ambassador for Design-Nation.
