C M Glass Designs was the brainchild of designer Catherine Mahé. Her kiln-formed glass work was distinctively colourful and inspired by strong linear and geometric patterns. A self-taught designer-maker, Catherine discovered kiln-forming while investigating the inclusion of fused glass inserts into some mosaics she was creating, and she immediately fell in love with the medium.
Catherine solely used Bullseye glass: this premier art glass is designed specifically for glass fusing and offers an exceptional range of colours and hues. She was attracted to contrast in many forms: through the constant development of bold and vibrant colour combinations, and the exploration of texture on a glossy and smooth glass surface.
Light also played a key part in her pursuit of contrast: opaque and transparent glass are carefully juxtaposed, allowing for exciting light effects and depth throughout the objects Catherine creates. Some of her pieces were intended for use, whereas others such as her bevelled drop-out vessels, are finely crafted and decorative art objects. At the time of joining Design-Nation in 2020 Catherine was experimenting with movement and glass flow through sculptural slumping. This process enabled her to develop new wall art and sculptures, which encompassed colour, contrast, pattern, texture, light and movement: a feast for the senses.
