We launched our new level of membership for UK craft and design graduates at New Designers 2018 and since then we have been busily spreading the word to those eligible to join. The aim of our graduate membership scheme is to provide a stepping stone to those at the very start of their career as a designer maker, nurturing their fledgling practice by providing support and opportunities tailored to the early stage of their practice.
We are very excited to announce that Design-Nation has recently been awarded funding by The Radcliffe Trust for a graduate mentoring programme. This will fund a number of new mentoring relationships between graduate members and our Design-Nation Fellow members. Our Fellows have a wealth of experience and knowledge to impart to those at the beginning of their designer maker journey. The 6 month programme will begin in the spring and all DN graduate members will be eligible to apply.
Hayley Banks, Design-Nation’s Membership & Programme Manager explains:
“We’re delighted by this investment in our programme from The Radcliffe Trust; it will allow Design-Nation to help fast track the development of a group of new makers, building their confidence and resilience. It also enables us to encourage leadership in our Fellow members by providing an opportunity to develop their mentoring skills.”
Graduate membership is open to BA / MA graduates who have completed their studies in a relevant creative subject within the past two years. Applications are not assessed by our selection panel but we have now introduced two deadlines per year for Graduate membership – 1st April and 1st October. All graduates who join us by 1st April will be considered for the new graduate mentoring programme. Graduate membership costs £40+vat per year.
