Design-Nation Head, Hand and Heart – Talks And Demonstrations

Prestigious designer-maker portfolio Design-Nation is delighted to announce its line-up of Talks and Demonstrations for London Craft Week 2018, developed and presented in partnership with Barbara Chandler and Helen Yardley Studio.

The four day exhibition is accompanied by a lively programme of free talks and demonstrations, and will stay open late on Thursday 10th May until 8pm.

WEDNESDAY 9 MAY

Christine Meyer-Eaglestone will be in the Head Hand & Heart showroom throughout the day, demonstrating the complex and precise marquetry techniques that create her colourful visual signatures on furniture and art pieces such as mirrors, screens, wall panels, chests and cabinets.

Meet the maker (informal): Hugh Miller will also be present today, joined by Jacky Puzey in the afternoon.

THURSDAY 10 MAY
12.30-1.30pm Meet the Maker: Barbara Chandler inconversation with Anna Gravelle, Gizella K Warburton, Hugh Miller, Jacky Puzey & Linda Bloomfield. FREE but limited spaces are available. Book online.

2pm-5.30pm Demonstration of body-tensioned loom weaving by rugmaker Angie Parker. This ancient skill is a technique just as effective as the larger-size loom weaving that Angie uses to make her vibrant rugs.

5.45pm–6.30pm Makers’ informal pecha-kucha event devised by Helen Yardley. Come and meet the gang and hear who we are and what makes us tick – a fast and fun image-led event. FREE but please RSVP online

Followed immediately by our Thursday Late Private View until 8pm. Refreshments will be served.

FRIDAY 11 MAY
We have not one but two demonstrators today. We’ll start with rug-tufting by our host Helen Yardley. Helen and her team will be on hand to demonstrate how they transform Helen’s exquisite designs into hand-tufted rugs. And while they rest, ceramicist Linda Bloomfield will show how she throws and forms clay to make her lovely pots and vessels. The two demos will alternate throughout the day.

Meet the maker (informal): Anna Gravelle and Harriet Elkerton will also be present today.

SATURDAY 12 MAY
Japanese textured carving: furniture maker and former architect Hugh Miller will show the unique hand carving techniques that he uses to complete each piece. Three sessions through the day. FREE, but please pre-register online.

Meet the maker (informal): Christine Meyer-Eaglestone and Ruth Singer will also be present today.

Design-Nation have curated a display of 11 makers and their inspiring work, including furniture and marquetry from Christine Meyer-Eaglestone and Hugh Miller; ceramics by Harriet Elkerton and Linda Bloomfield; rugs by Helen Yardleyand Angie Parker; interior textiles by Anna Gravelle and Jacky Puzey; and objets d’art by Ruth Singer and Gizella Warburton.
