27-30 June 2017
Craft Central, 33-35 St John’s Square, Clerkenwell, London EC1M 4DS
Leading craft and design networks Design-Nation and Design Factory are delighted to join forces to present this pop-up shop from a selection of our members, in the heart of the Clerkenwell design district. Buy beautifully designed ceramics, textiles, fashion accessories, giftware and more, direct from the makers, many of whom will also work to commission to make you that something special for your home.
The showcase will include a wide choice of ceramics, from Foto Ceramica’s foliage-decorated bisque ware which incorporates designer Kit Anderson’s own photography, to Kate McBride’s witty hand-built porcelain figures which pay contemporary homage to traditional European ceramics such as Meissen. Kate and Kit are both East Midlands based, while Linda Bloomfield works in her garden-shed studio in her West London garden, hand-throwing simple contemporary tableware which she then glazes in a range of classic pastel hues. American-born Snowden Flood is also London-based and her ceramics and kitchen accessories often feature imagery drawn from the capital, making them ideal gifts.
Fashion accessories for sale will include award-winning designer Ekta Kaul’s beautiful fine silk and wool scarves, dyed, printed and sewn in her London studio; J C Middlebrook’s Nottingham-created and very wearable lace jewellery in striking colours for today; and the vibrant silk scarves and pocket squares of KathKath Studio, who create distinctive designs for women and men from their south London base.
Melanie Porter is known for her giant knitted upholstery on vintage chairs, but also has attractive ranges of lightshades and charming hand-made fairy lights to brighten any dining table. Textile artist Michelle House makes vivid wall hangings and cushions that bring welcome splashes of colour to contemporary interiors. Melanie and Michelle are also based in south London.
From further afield, Edinburgh-based Moody Monday create striking and edgy hand-printed wallpaper and furnishing fabrics inspired by astronomy, geometry, discarded instruments and more. Michaela McMillan’s background in embroidery and love for story-telling is evident in her unique take on traditional Russian dolls, using rich layers of stitch, found objects and vintage trims to create unique statement pieces in her Rugby workshop.
