Hand knitting is an instant and portable way of responding to the world around me and the ideas that develop from what I see. I usually knit and work in the places that interest me, researching ideas and bringing those into my work. I often work from abstract ideas, not just what is visually stimulating. I am fascinated by the processes which shape our world and the way we describe them. I enjoy the question and answer of working with a process that doesn’t reveal the finished object as it is being made. I like the balance of control and surprise, designing the knitted piece for transforming into felt. I love to experiment with yarn, exploring the different properties it has Another everyday meaning of yarn is a story, to me that’s an interesting part of making an object such as a bag, which is to be used and worn.
