RubyKite is a gallery of contemporary art scarves created by designer and printmaker Tamara Williams and Joy Leese.
Inspired by nature, Tamara creates mixed media paintings, intaglio and relief prints on gypsum; exploring unique textures that translate beautifully on to silk, cashmere and velvet. Each colour story is printed in more sustainable small batches on natural fabrics to create wearable art that enhances the original artwork, by creating a 3-D effect with a signature chalky palette.
Tamara’s design background informs and influences all of their work, from her love of composition and visual space, to the energy and freedom she finds inabstract line work. She enjoys experimenting with gypsum as a print medium to create intricate textures. These become hugely abstracted when scaled up dramatically for Rubykite’s scarves – from small pocket silks to large silk squares.
RubyKite’s aim is to create treasured, timeless pieces that prioritise longevity over fast fashion: original and affordable art scarves that stand out in a world of mass production.
