Making in her hometown of Stoke-on-Trent, Laura Plant draws from the creative heritage and ambition of the pioneering potters who made this city famous.
Her vessels expose the unique qualities of the ceramic surface through exploration of clay bodies, glaze and making techniques. Each clay and process bring a different character and contrast as the different surface qualities sit together. Through a considered design process, Laura’s love of shape evolves into sculptural pieces that create striking ceramic landscapes.
Laura’s work is driven by her passion for ceramics, as a material and heritage, especially 18th century ceramics. She says, ‘I aim to echo the grandeur I have long admired, re-imagining iconic forms for the contemporary home. I draw on my skills as a designer, and my experiences of industry.’
Laura was selected for one of the 2019 British Ceramics Biennial’s Fresh awards and has subsequently collaborated with leading ceramicists. She originally joined Design-Nation as a Graduate member in 2020 and moved up to full membership in early 2022.
