Josephine makes narrative jewellery and objects with botanical detailing from the Flora of the British Isles, exploring notions of transience, fragility and preciousness in nature. Her evocative handcrafted assemblages combine silver and mixed media with a soothing colour palette, reminiscent of the natural landscape from the coastline and countryside. She aims to create harmony and balance in her pieces and a gently calming effect on the viewer and wearer.
Through the process of imprinting she is able to capture the essence of collected natural materials, creating a permanent impression of the impermanent, to evoke a sense of place, time and memory. Josephine’s work aims to comment on the loss of biodiversity in the natural environment and to encourage treasuring and preserving what remains.
