Jenny Chan is a self-taught ceramic artist, originally from Hong Kong and now based in Sheffield. A principal theme in Jenny’s work is faces. Her concern is for the wellbeing of people, particularly women, and she tries to express the serenity and beauty of women in her work.
With meticulous and reflective craftsmanship, using hand building techniques Jenny creates unique figurative sculptures, each with their own story. Jenny starts with a blank face onto which she designs each unique feature. Her aim is to balance elegant simplicity with decorative flourishes and craftsmanship, in order to captures a sense of inner self reflected in the physical representation. Jenny wishes to explore the imperfectness of women’s bodies, embracing all skin colours and a positive body image. Through her Divas range, she hopes to empower and define women and inspire future achievements.
Jenny’s newest series of deep-box framed porcelain faces are laid out grid-style to create a more minimal contemporary approach.
