Artist Dionne Swift uses the scale, emotion and energy of her environment to inspire energetic drawings and textiles. She translates the power of the elements into layers of intuitive marks on paper and on cloth. Thread colours and textures entwine to create stitches which offer a vibrant and dynamic surface. In her Yorkshire studio Dionne plays with ‘tactile pointillism’ where tones reveal themselves as colours that are visually mixed, captivating and entrancing the viewer.
Using her sewing machine as a mark making tool, Dionne sews as she draws, draws as she sews: intuitively, spontaneously yet often at a labour intensive scale. ‘Embroidery need not be a slow, static meditation but a lively, vibrant and effervescent one.’
Teaching and exhibiting internationally, Dionne has an established creative career, complimented by numerous community projects and private commissions.
