Detta Knitwear, founded by Dublin born designer Berni Raeside, sits on the historic framework-knitting boundary of Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, and Derbyshire. Her studio is dedicated to reviving the art of hand-crafted wool knitwear, drawing on the landscapes and traditions of Ireland, Scotland, and the wider British Isles.
Each garment is made with 100% British-spun wool and hand produced on vintage knitting machines, honouring both the craft and materials of Britain & Ireland’s textile heritage. Berni’s inspiration is taken from centuries-old practices: indigo-dyed fisherman’s ganseys, early polar explorers, the textured patterns of the Islands and Highlands in Scotland, and myth-laden stitches of the west coast of Ireland. These traditions inform designs that are both timeless and contemporary.
Through Detta Knitwear, Berni reimagines knitwear as it once was — resilient, meaningful, and deeply connected to land and sea — offering garments that carry the spirit of place, craft, and heritage into the present day.
