Chih-Ning Li is a contemporary jewellery designer and hand-engraver, trading as Ning Art Jewellery, and specialised in traditional, Italian hand engraving. She transforms traditional heirlooms into contemporary jewellery.
Fusing Italian Renaissance aesthetics with traditional British seal engraving, Chih-Ning draws from in-depth specialist training in Birmingham, Florence and London. She engraves precious metals with textures of silk and velvety finishes, as well as decorative patterns of floral, infinity and damask motifs, creating unique and distinctive pieces. She embraces illustration as a form of therapy. Instead of telling her own stories, she allows her wearers to express themselves through bespoke, hand-engraved illustration and design. She believes the wearer can be healed through the process of telling their own stories.
The value of Ning Art Jewellery can be found in the quality of its craftsmanship. Chih-Ning aims to preserve the traditions of hand engraving while creating contemporary pieces, reinventing this historic craft for the contemporary wearer.
Chih-Ning is a recipient of a QEST scholarship and her work is hallmarked by the Goldsmiths’ Company.
