Laura Mabbutt specialises in textiles. She graduated with a first class BA(Hons) in Contemporary Crafts in 2007 from the University of Lincoln and has exhibited throughout the UK. More recently she completed her MA, also at Lincoln, and has curated numerous exhibitions and managed arts projects with a strong community focus.
Now focused on her own freelance practice, Laura specialises in sculptural wet felt techniques and mixed media. Her work utilises the natural properties of wool, creating seamless objects without using adhesives or stitching.
Laura favours a natural colour palette allowing her to concentrate on form, unless colour is vital to the work. In her recent collections, she explores the use of other materials contrasting with felt, inspiring new ideas.
Laura spent eight years with the exhibitions team at the National Centre for Craft & Design and for more than a decade has taken great satisfaction in teaching the craft of felt-making to others. She’s exhibited in a variety of venues; Mall Galleries, London and The National Centre for Craft & Design. Laura is available for demonstrations and workshops.
Laura Mabbutt is one of Design-Nation’s Fellows.
