I am a ceramicist whose pieces are made by throwing and hand building with terracotta to create functional and decorative slipware for the home and table. I use each piece as its own canvas by using coloured slips in painterly and expressive ways. My work draws on ancient and traditional techniques which informs my modern, contemporary shapes and abstract surface design. My work is intended to be both functional, for the home and table as well as being intended for decorative use and as a vehicle for abstract decorative design. My surface decoration method ensures that each piece I create is unique in style, depth, tone and character. In addition to using coloured slips on the inside of each piece a vitreous slip is applied to each piece on the outside as a matt contrast to the slip decoration.
