Fung + Bedford

abstract and architectural origam

Fung + Bedford are the duo Angela Fung and Ashley Bedford, who create origami inspired large scale installations and faceted sculptures, combining their experiences of contemporary jewelry and architecture to explore movement through textural form.

As a design practice they challenge the traditions of origami and explore the possibilities of manipulating humble paper – transforming it into contemporary art installations. Fung + Bedford call it Architectural Origami.

Angela and Ashley work with paper stocks, metallics and fabrics – choosing simple flat materials to create unexpected elaborate structures through repetitive and precise folds. Through manipulation by folding and creasing, they transform single layer paper and metal into immersive installations, imbuing them with a performative potentiality.

Fung + Bedford aim to create installations that generate a dialogue with the space they inhabit, presenting and connecting them to each other through the process of making. They push themselves to develop their practice, inspire others and to challenge the boundaries for abstract and architectural origami as a contemporary art form.

Fung + Bedford are Design-Nation Fellows.
