Ella’s practice utilises the texture and character of driftwood, contrasting its weathered, uneven and dull surface against the feminine softness and sheen of textile thread and plastic tubing. Inspired by the British coast, with colour palettes coming from the urban environment of street art and graffiti, these interior artworks exploit her love of combining found materials with vibrant colour and graphic textile line.
As well as working with driftwood Ella also collects, orders and frames beach plastics, lighters, ceramics and natural materials (amongst other materials). These Collections are simply curated, often according to their colour or size.
She lives and works in rural Hertfordshire, a stone’s throw from the Grand Union Canal. In the countryside Ella is further inspired by nature and natural materials.
