Aidan Donovan is a designer and maker of contemporary, narrative-led furniture and homeware. His work is entirely handmade, using sustainably-sourced native British timbers, and he celebrates the use of hand tools through carefully considered joinery, shaping and surface textures.
Drawing on a breadth of influences and interests, from calligraphy to astronomy to industrial machinery, Aidan has developed a keen interest in story-telling through his work. By weaving in personal details based on briefs from clients, plus unexpected visual influences, he aims to create functional pieces that are much more than the sum of their parts.
Aidan trained at the internationally renowned Waters & Acland furniture school, following a career change from Social Work and a background in studying Arabic. In 2019 his Gibran Seat was Highly Commended by Design-Nation at A Celebration of Craftsmanship & Design, a high quality annual furniture fair. in 2020 Aidan became artist in residence at On The Brink Studio, Stockport.
