Decorex 2014

Design-Nation presents the cream of contemporary British design at Decorex, the leading international destination showcase for luxurious design for interiors.

Prestigious creative agency and membership organisation Design-Nation is pleased to announce the five outstanding designer-makers who will form this year’s showcase at Decorex 2014.

Clean lines for contemporary living  in conjunction with respect for the craft traditions is what underpins the work of many of Design-Nation’s Members and informs much that is good in 21st century design. This is exemplified in Miranda Watkins’ highly successful and award winning Gleam Pewter tableware collection, designed and handmade in collaboration with A R Wentworth of Sheffield. At Decorex Miranda Watkins launches two ranges: the classic elegance of Grey Gleam, and the fresh new Colour Gleam.

Michael Ruh Studio premier their uniquely scribed handmade Rio and Esparto pendant lamps, shown for the first time to the British market. This delicate work is inspired by mark making, light and shade, and the nuances of seasonal change. Every glass pendant lamp is made by hand and signed by Michael, whose studio celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2014.

Furniture maker Angus Ross shows his new limited edition Whisky Collectors Cabinet, handmade in layers of solid oak and sycamore, with discreet compartments and accompanied by specially commissioned crystal tumblers. The first of only ten to be made was sold at Design Shanghai recently and Angus will show cabinet no 2 at Decorex – its European premiere.

Rising star Richard Brendon is fast becoming known for his individual take on ceramic collecting and production. His new range Speck celebrates the accidental faults of firing in bone china, as each of the minute black marks that can appear in production is deliberately highlighted and yet concealed with a simple copper dot. As a result each piece is individual, refined and graphic.

Gabi Bolton’s designs reflect her diverse interests in animals, cartography, architecture and landscape. At Decorex she launches her new Optica Collection, inspired by 60s Op Art, with a definite nod to Dutch waxprints and Japanese woodblocks. Strong hand-drawn and rhythmic patterns in subtle tones adorn hand blocked wallpapers and linen, and beautifully complement the minimal lines of the other exhibitors.

Design-Nation is grateful for the continuing support of our partner UBM who generously give us the space at Decorex each year to present this showcase. We also thank our brand ambassador Andrew Tanner and design agency The Unloved for their invaluable support.
