Interested in applying to become a Design-Nation member?
We are the leading online portfolio for contemporary craft and design practitioners in the British Isles, founded in the late 1990s by design champion extraordinaire Peta Levi MBE, who also founded New Designers and The Design Trust. Emphasis is on those who both work entrepreneurially and are open to collaborations across the sector, especially with industry and retail. Selection is by application to our regular panel of industry experts and design peers who meet twice a year. This panel will next meet in early May 2016.
Successful applicants receive a dedicated page on our website; online marketing support and promotion; access to leading trade and retail showcases such as Decorex and The Southbank Centre; and other exhibition, collaboration, development and retail opportunities through our business partners in design, craft, manufacturing and retail, as well as our ‘sister’ organisations The National Centre for Craft & Design and Design Factory, both supported by Arts Council England. The latter offer respectively the biggest exhibition space in England devoted to changing exhibitions of contemporary craft & design; and a high quality continuing programme of professional development opportunities including workshops, mentoring and seminars, which are free to members.
We are currently planning a new phase of research and development into major new collaborative programmes to help our members develop new processes and projects in close partnership with industry and selected retailers. The R&D phase will launch in 2016 with networking events and partnership research, building towards major events in 2018-19.
Membership is £140 (plus VAT) per annum, and may be paid in monthly instalments. There is a 15% discount if you are also a member of Design Factory. This income helps to fund our showcases and projects, rather than running costs. We do not act as agents, so never levy commission on Design-Nation members’ earnings via our own events. Our role is support and promote you, more like a social enterprise.
If you would like to join, please request an application form. The deadline is Wednesday 20 April 2016.
