Each year Design Nation is supported by Decorex International to take a stand at the prestigious interior design show in London. It’s a fantastic opportunity for members to take part in a Design Nation curated stand to showcase collections and launch new ranges at one of the most highly regarded trade events. This year the 5x3m stand was shared by Margo Selby, Angus Ross and me, Sue Pryke under the title of Design Nation Presents…
This September, Decorex relocated to the inspiring venue in Perk’s Field and the Orangery in the grounds of Kensington Palace, such a contrast to the usual show venues, surrounded by leafy walks and grand architecture within the park.
It’s a great opportunity to meet interior designers, retailers and specifiers, architects and a broad spectrum of those from the design industry, particularly for textile designers, but there were also plenty of footfall and interest in furniture and tableware from hoteliers to architects. A busy show with a broad visitor base.
Working as a team the stand was put together over the weeks leading up to the opening with constant liaison between all of us, decisions about colour of the stand, lighting, vinyls and what products to show were coordinated in detail. Especially with the help from Jess Beavis working with Margo, who coordinated all of our plans, even providing scale drawings of where products would be placed and made sure that we were all aware of deadlines and decisions to be made in the run up to the event.
Margo launched her new bespoke hand knotted Jewel rug and the stand provided space to demonstrate how her woven textiles work on a larger format with the addition of a bed on the stand, giving the opportunity to showcase bedding, cushions and fabrics. Angus’s furniture, sculpted, moulded and formed by hand in the Scottish Highlands, attracted a lot of visitors to the stand, the elegant forms and beautiful materials, exquisitely crafted were something we all enjoyed sitting on for the days of the fair. I launched my new collection of terracotta, bone china, pewter and wooden bowls which balanced the natural hues of Angus’ furniture and were a great contrast to Margo’s colour and pattern.
The mix of the three companies worked well, Angus and Margo teamed up to worked in close partnership with Margo providing the textiles for the lampshades for Angus’ lamps and writing desk, to the cushions for the bar stools. Angus’s Y Light table made from Ash looked great with the rich hues of Margo’s Rosa fabric. The palette that we all worked with complemented the collections and the colour of the stand brought the 3 companies together creating a strong, cohesive presentation. So much so, that on the last day it was announced that we were Highly Commended for the Best Stand Award, champagne was presented and enjoyed by all!
It was a fantastic week working with a great bunch of Design Nation members along with great feedback, press interest and new business coming from the show, we are all very grateful to Design Nation and Decorex for the opportunity to exhibit at such an important event within the trade show calendar.
